1. When entering or leaving the room, always
bow to the flag and the instructor to show respect. If
you are entering the class late, bow and wait for the instructor
to acknowledge you and give you further instructions.
2. Proper
attitude, behavior and respect will be maintained within the
Do Jang – which is the place to
learn, practice and teach the Martial Arts.
3. Instructors are addressed by an appropriate
title (Mr., Ms., Sir, Sa Bum Nim, etc.). Black belt guests should
be acknowledged and shown respect as directed by the discretion
of the ranking instructor.
4. Remove all jewelry before training
(including rings, watches, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces).
5. Keep toenails and fingernails neatly
trimmed and keep uniforms clean for each session.
6. Prompt attendance is expected of all students. If a student
comes to class late, he/she should wait until he or she is recognized
by the instructor and receives permission to join the class, bowing
to show respect as they do so. Arriving late is disruptive to the
rest of the class and detracts from the learning environment. It
is customary to receive pushups or another exercise as a reminder
to show up on time.
7. Strict focus and attention is to be
given to the instructor(s) at all times. No unnecessary talking
to other students will be permitted, and students must raise
their hand to be recognized by the instructor(s). Do not allow
your mind to wander, as the study of the Martial Arts requires
focus and concentration.
8. Keep language polite and refrain from using obscenities. This
is another way to show respect for the school and the instructor. Restraint
is one of the tenets of Tae Kwon Do.
9. Any student who deliberately provokes
a fight in or out of the school is immediately expelled from
further training. By no means does this rule out your basic right
of self-defense.
10. When correcting your uniform or belt,
always face away from the instructor and flag.
11. When in the ahn jo position, legs should be bent under
the body, sitting on the feet, with the hands on thighs and eyes
closed.
12. Group class students will observe
the above rules as well as the following:
- During class, practice
only what the instructor teaches.
- No student is allowed to leave the workout
area without the instructor’s
permission.
- In the absence of an instructor, the senior student will take
charge and all others will practice as directed.
- No student is allowed to teach another student during class,
unless directed by an instructor to do so.
- Practice should be vigorous; however, if you are fatigued
or injured, please inform your instructor.
13. Always persevere during exercises. Never whine
or complain. Put all of yourself into the exercise. If
you are physically unable to do a part of the exercise, do as much
of the exercise as you can. Always try your best.
14. If you must leave before the class is complete, obtain
permission from the instructor. The same holds true for getting
a drink of water or using the restroom.
15. During sparring sessions, the following
rules shall be followed:
-
Sparring only under the supervision of a Black Belt instructor.
- The following safety equipment is mandatory:
safety gear for head, hands and feet; mouthpiece, gender-specific
protection (males-groin cups / females – chest guards).
- Light contact only – any display
of excessive contact and/or unsportsmanlike conduct is subject
to immediate dismissal.
